Lost Your ID in a Taxi in Cameroon? Here's What to Do

It happens fast. You hop out of a taxi in Douala, Yaounde, or Buea, and 30 minutes later you realize your CNI, wallet, or phone is gone. Left it on the seat or it slipped out of your pocket. Don't panic. Here's exactly what to do.

Immediate Steps (Do These Now)

Step 1: Check WeFoundIt

Before anything else, search on WeFoundIt. Many taxi drivers in Cameroon drop off found documents at Drivers Union Posts, which are our partner collection points. Your ID might already be registered.

• Go to app.wefoundit.space/browse
• Search your full name
• If found: pay 3,000 XAF and collect from the nearest partner station

Step 2: Report It on WeFoundIt

If your item isn't there yet, report it as lost. The platform will notify you automatically the moment it's registered by anyone.

• Open the app and tap "Report Lost"
• Describe the item (document type, your name, where you lost it)
• Enable push notifications so you're alerted immediately

Step 3: Check Drivers Union Posts in Your Area

Drivers Union Posts are the most common place taxi-lost documents end up. These posts collect IDs that drivers find in their cars:

• Buea: Drivers Union Post, Opposite Airline, Bonduma | Minikoket, Bonduma
• Douala: Major motor parks (Bonaberi, Ndokoti, PK14)
• Yaounde: Motor parks at Mvan, Tongolo, Biyem-Assi

Ask at the post for your name. If they have it but haven't registered it yet, they can do it on the spot.

Step 4: File a Police Report

Go to your nearest commissariat and file an attestation de perte (declaration of loss). This is needed if you ultimately need to replace the document, and it also creates an official record.

• Bring: secondary ID or a witness
• You'll receive a stamped declaration
